Little story time here. When I was young I swore that I was going to walk down the aisle in a pair of embellished Guiseppi Zanotti’s (remember the fishbone ones?) no matter how much they cost. As it turns out, my ankles suck, and I ended up wearing flats. But I don’t think I’m alone in dreaming about some kind of fancy footwear that would usually be waaaaay out of my budget.
So I’m here to tell you that if you just have to have those dream kicks, you can do it. I’ve said it before, and I coach all of my clients on this, working your budget is a practise of give and take.
There are always elements to trim, and we can find that by simply figuring out your wedding priorities (or as I like to call them, your wedding wishes). If you wedding wish is to walk the aisle in a pair of hot pink So Kate’s then let’s make it happen
Where do we trim? A good place to start is the tabletop, and I’d start here:
- Chargers
- Individual Menus
- Monogramed Napkins
Now by no means am I saying don’t do these because they really are beautiful and thoughtful touches that enhance the aesthetic of your wedding. But when it boils down to it, I can honestly say that, as a guest I’ve never once left a wedding and been like “The best thing about that wedding was the charger plates” Do I notice them? Yes. Does it impact the day in a major way? Absolutely not.
Same goes for napkins. In fact, I’m included to say this one is even more nefarious because I don’t always notice them, and usually when I do they’re soiled. Skip it.
This one is a bit debatable, but I stand behind what I said. Personally I love the look of menus at each seat, but you can dramatically reduce costs (and help the environment) by having one per table. Because let’s face facts, by the time the first course is served, they’re just getting pushed aside.
So, assuming that you have 200 guests at your wedding, eliminating chargers alone will land you those red soles you’ve had your eye on.
